Worse Fonts Ever

These are absolutely, the worse fonts ever created. Because they are either completely useless as a font or so over used that they have lost their appeal. As a designer I refused to even use them.

Arial: Arial has become so overused that its become the font to use when you need a sans serif and is its the standard sans serif front for web pages. There are so many better options out there such as Helvetica, Century Gothic, Trebuchet and Myriad.

Brush Script: I can not tell you how much I hate Brush Script. People need to learn that it does not look like hand writing. I will never use this font when there are so many other options out there for a "scripty" style font.

Comic Sans: The #1 most hated font ever for a reason. I would not even use this font if I was creating a comic.

Copperplate Gothic: This font almost feels like it has a multiple personality disorder. It doesn't know if it wants to be a Serif font or a San Serif font. The spacing is horrible, the weight makes it very difficult to read and finally it uses small caps.

Courier New: It is mono-spaced. There is nothing more to say about it. Unless you used a typewriter it should never be used.

Curlz: Hard to read and way to decorative.

Edwardian Script: Not only is this font overly decorative on the capitals, its weight is so thin its hard to read.

Jokerman: I have seen people use this font when they want to appear "Funky" or "Hip" or "Cool" or just plain "Fun". In fact, it has the opposite effect.

Monotype Corsiva: There has never been one point in my life where I even thought about using this font. I have never found a use for it.

Old English: Next to impossible to read. Widely used in the middle ages, but then again very few people could read unless you were nobility. In fact this Font has been so over used to represent High Class, Nobility and even god forbid "tough" that it has lost that meaning. The only time I would use this font was if it was for a Pub Sign in England.

Microsoft Sans Serif: I can not tell the difference between this and Arial.

Papyrus: People love to use this font for everyday uses. It does not read well. It is tall, extremely thin and the edges are not smooth making it even harder to read. It works for large headlines and titles, even then I would be extremely hesitant to use it.

Times New Roman: The number one most popular font. Because it is so overused I will always look for an alternative.

Viner Hand: Its like a thicker, more "scripy" version or papyrus.

BEHOLD, the fruits of my labor!

One of my current projects was to clean up the current website. I then took it upon myself to redesign the website. You know, use a proper color scheme, a proper Hierarchy to organize the infomation, ect.

While trying to create a new page, I came across several problems most of them due to my lack of knowledge how current and new web languages work, including XHTML, CSS, Action Script, Java Script and ect. I discovered that I was afraid to learn these so I never did. However I did give a go at Action Script (aka flash programing) which I found to be overly complex and time consuming. After some research I decided to create the new webpage using HTML and CSS (I woudl have used XHTML but its so close to HTML with only a few little differances that I decided to stick with HTML which I already understand.

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets, which is a simple way to add style to web documents. The best thing is that it is built into web browsers unlike Java which is external and needs to have a Scrpt file also hosted on the server.

Basically I wanted to use CSS to create drop down menus. Here is the test pagei was working on

Needless to say I am no longer working for Sign*A*Rama. I did however land a gig working at a pool company where I am their in-house Graphic Artist. Here I am valued more for my input and knowledge where before it was just thrown out the door or ingnored. I enjoy working for someone who values my knowledge and ideas. I do everything from webmastering to creating advertisments for them.
